Love explores the depth required for genuine intimacy.
The work was born from a reflection on what it means to let love truly reach us. Not simply at the surface, where affection can remain familiar and comfortable, but in the deeper places of the soul where vulnerability, truth, and self-knowledge reside.
I have often thought of the soul as an ocean. There is what can be seen from the surface: what we reveal easily, what others can perceive without having to look too closely. But beneath it exists another world, quieter and deeper, one that cannot be reached without willingness to go beneath the surface.
This painting speaks to that depth.
The movement within the work evokes the feeling of water in motion. Something approaching, something already present, something that cannot be held still. Love appears almost as a presence knocking at the windows of the soul, asking to be let in.
But the poem asks a question: does love know how deep it must go to truly meet us?
For me, intimacy begins when we understand that knowing another person requires more than reaching what is immediately visible. It requires a willingness to encounter the depths and to recognize that we, too, must have the courage to inhabit our own depths.
The ocean became a natural language for this reflection. Its surface can be beautiful, but it tells us very little about everything that exists beneath it. To enter its depth is to enter another dimension entirely.
The painting therefore holds a tension between movement and stillness, between what is revealed and what remains beneath the surface. It is an invitation to look beyond appearances and to approach love with the depth that love itself requires.
The accompanying poem and art film grew from this idea. They speak to love not simply as something that arrives, but as something that asks us to meet one another fully, with presence, vulnerability, and an understanding of the depths we each carry.
Love is ultimately a reflection on intimacy.
On allowing love to approach.
On knowing that the door to the soul is not at the surface.
And on recognizing that to truly enter another’s depths, we must be willing to know the ocean within ourselves.
